Upcoming Journey at Central

I got my hands on a copy of Jesus Christ from Cover to Cover this week and I’ve begun working though it (though I need to finish the excellent Under the Cope of Heaven before I dive in fully).  It looks like this is going to take over a year to work through the whole thing, so we might end up doing different portions of the journey using a variety of methods (large Sunday school, retreat, small group movement, etc.).

The extended length of this journey means three things for me in the coming year:

  1. I have a lot more time to finish my Genesis 1-11 study than I first thought.  Our High School students need to be on this journey with the congregation (heck, my wife is taking the Grade school students on a 5 year tour of the entire Bible).
  2. I need to figure out how we want to pursue the Holy Spirit study.  It really is an essential part of Central’s path forward.  A former pastor once tried to force a particular theology of the Spirit on to the congregation and freaked Central out – but the Church really doesn’t exist without the Spirit, so we need to stake out a way to invite people into understanding how important the Holy Spirit is to our community and work.
  3. I’ll be able to pull at least the first 6 month of sermons for next year from this movement.  That’s nice, though I want to get into some book series after we’re done.

Anyway, here’s a promo video I did for Jesus Christ from Cover to Cover – enjoy.
