This week I began my NaNoWriMo journey on Painfully Hopeful. I committed to writing a section for Welcome to the Valleys each weekday, with the possibility of posts also going up over the weekend. Thus far, it’s been an interesting journey. In six days I’ve covered a portion of the story that would have taken a month and a half using my typical “one post a week” pace. While I’m not trying to achieve the NaNoWriMo goal of 50,000 words this month, I will probably get through at least two chapters. I hope, by the end of the month, I’ll even finally get to The Ravine! I’ve been writing that scene in my mind for months, it will be nice to finally get it into Scrivener!
On Thursday I also participated in my first NaNoWriMo write-in. While it wasn’t something with which I felt particularlly comfortable 1, I do see the appeal. If you are on the fence about participating in NaNoWriMo, and feel motivated by writing with a group, I highly suggest looking for an event near you!
This coming week we’ll reach Meadowrun, and meet the enigmatic healer Talum. It will be interested what insight he can give us about the Shadows! I hope you’ll enjoy the journey as much as I’m enjoying writing it!
- There’s a lot of “friendly competition” in the wider NaNoWriMo community. I understand it, and truly appreciate the good it does for a great many people. But it’s not something which motivates me to write. ↩
