“A” is for Apple

As I stumbled around the kitchen this morning, I saw an interesting glint of light in my peripheral vision. The previous night my wife had brought home a load of fruit 1, and as the morning sunlight reached its auspices the colors really popped. So, after I ground my coffee 2 I went and grabbed my camera. Below is my favorite photo from the set 3.

I increased the luminance of the apples’ reds, which cause them to pop compared to the other fruit in the frame 4. I also love the shift in color from red to more yellow as the eye moves from left to right. To see the other images from this shoot, check out my smugmug gallery.

From left to right: Apples, clementines, and grapefruit.

  1. We have a vegan daughter, so we always have a great deal of fruit.
  2. In the morning, some things are more important than photography. Also, it took a while to grind since I do it by hand.
  3. It was taken with my 18-105mm lens. I may set it up in the sunlight later and capture some images with my 500mm reflector and 40mm prime to pick out different features.
  4. I like apples better than pretty much any other fruit.
