We sometimes allow ourselves to hold on to the false notion that the “early church” was pristine and that all its theology was settled. The impulse this false notion leads to, especially among low-church folks like us Baptists, is that if we could only get back to the early church all of our problems would go away. But it’s a lie.

A Tough Week

This has been a tough week. I’ve been a pastor for 18 years, and in that time I’ve dealt with a lot of death. It kinda comes with the calling. This week has been different.

Last Conversation

Central Baptist has been blessed to have one of the most lovely people I’ve ever met in our fellowship. Peg Horton is sweet, joyous, and deep. She’ll regularly ask me Biblical Studies questions that make me do research, and giggle like a little kid on Christmas when she sees something funny.
