Camp Netop was a summer camp operated by a friend of my mom’s family for many years. My uncles all went to it, and when my cousins and I came of age we all travelled up to Maine for our own Netop experiences. I had many high’s there, and a few lows, but to this day I credit Netop with giving me my first experience as Christianity being something that is meant to be lived – and lived by people who were my peers. No, it didn’t “take” for my cousins, but it certainly prepared me for when Jesus finally shook me awake several years after my Netop experiences ended.
Netop closed before I got into High School, but the site remained undeveloped for nearly 20 years – until some Netop alumni approached the family who owned the property came to an agreement, it was time for Netop to re-open. The video below was just put on youtube, and it shows many of the sights and sounds that I encountered when I was at Netop (Mt. Washington and the Sand Cliffs were two my favorite). I don’t know if my son will ever be able to go to Netop – but I would love it if he could. It do have to go up for one one of the alumni weekends of of these years, though. I need to read, and maybe copy, my reflections from my Netop Vigil.
If you went to Netop and stumbled on to this post – when did you go and what are you doing now?

I was a Netop camper in the mid to late 60’s. I still have the most excelent memories.
Hello, I’m currently an assistant director at Netop and I came across this post. You can follow the latest news from camp on our new blog:

Next summer will be our fifth season since the reopening. Enrollment has increased each year and Netop has once again taken its place among the finest camps in Maine. We’re proud to be expanding the season by a week next year to a total of 6 weeks. Please contact me if you’d like to talk about camp or if you know anyone you think might benefit from being a camper.
Thanks,
David
