New Views

I took Bump for a walk yesterday as sunset approached. Given the way the Sun sets down by the river, I had to reverse course so as to not blind the little guy 1. This change in direction, however, helped me capture some views I’d never before seen. Way to go bump!

My favorite is below. Much of the light from the setting Sun is hidden behind a tree, and I used spot focus to set my exposure for the boats out in the river. The raw exposure had a significant amount of silhouetting, but there was ample data in the file for Lightroom to recover. I had considered doing some spot adjustments to bring out the details in the tree trunks, and still might, but I also enjoy the stark contrast from highlight to shadow in the composition.

  1. Yes, the stroller has a hood, but I also like to see the little fella as we walk.
