This past weekend my wife and I were honored to become the godparents for our friend's youngest child. The idea of godparents is not one common to the Baptist tradition, but it's one we really need to reconsider. The idea that there would be special people in a child's life, other than the parents, who are called to watch over a child's spiritual journey is a wonderful thing. It's a calling I hope to take seriously as my godchild grows into her place in Christ's body.
I guess I'll need to order a copy of Martyr's Mirror for her first birthday present. It'll make for excellent and obviously age-appropriate bedtime stories for a one year old.
